Mark Warkentin
Mark Warkentin, a 2008 marathon swimming Olympian, just can’t get enough.  After finishing eighth in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he just was not satisfied with his performance.  But life called with his wife and a son was born, so he retired and started coaching.

Mark Warkentin recently participated in a Distance Swim in Santa Monica, CA, and he won decisively.

(continued from above)
Nevertheless... The allure of the open water was too much.  The challenge of world-class competition remained.  Many of the same men he had beaten and some of the same men who had beaten him had remained.  And the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim in London will prove to be even larger and more dramatic than the race in Beijing.  So with his wife’s full support, he returned to the waterways of the world and is on track to try to represent the USA again at his second Olympics.

Now however romantic the thought of winning a medal in London may be, the everyday importance of eating right, training hard and swimming well remain.  It is a never-ending battle.  24/7, 365 days per year. But it is a battle that the former USC All-American intends to win.  Open Water Wednesday is proud to welcome 2008 Olympian Mark Warkentin and listen to his road back to the Olympics.

Your host for this exclusive presentation is Steven Munatones.  Steven Munatones is an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Inductee. He has prepared open water swimming materials used by NBC, USA Swimming, the Beijing Olympic Committee, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, National Public Radio and National Geographic Magazine.
