Lynn Kubasek
In addition to being a member of the Half Century Club, Lynn Kubasek is both an Environmental Compliance Specialist and a Water Quality Specialist.
Lynn Kubasek is a member of the Half Century Club – people over the age of 50 who have done a major channel swim around the world.
Lynn is an extraordinarily cheerful and dedicated open water swimmer from beautiful Laguna Beach in California. She volunteers hundreds of hours each season as an Observer with the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation and Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Federation.
She acts as a confidante, observer and support crew for dozens of swimmers tackling marathon swims between the channel islands off of Southern California.

Lynn's enthusiasm, passion and 24/7 commitment to the sport knows no bounds. Day and night, weekday and weekend, she and her circle of open water swimming friends discuss where they will swim in the ocean – year-round – and what next marathon swim they will do, kayak or observe for.

A Water Professional in More Ways than One
As a career outside of the water – so to speak – Lynn is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control and a Certified Erosion Sediment and Storm Water Inspector in Southern California. In Southern California – a land of endless vehicles and endless highways in a slice of the desert in the western United States – Lynn’s role is critically important to help maintain the waterways that deliver water to millions.
As a result of her years on the job, Lynn has become an expert in Urban Runoff – the bane of every open water swimmer in metropolitan areas. In essence, when it rains, the oceans and lakes and reservoirs become more polluted. Lynn’s job is to help reduce this problem. Open Water Wednesday talks to Lynn about this unseen – but increasingly dangerous risk – in the waterways of Southern California.
