Equipment:
Open Water Specialty Products
Open water swimmers use a variety of products, from lanolin and other skin lubricants to ear plugs and GPS units. While they use the same equipment in the pool as pool swimmers, from kick boards and swimmer's snorkels, they require all kinds of additional equipment and products to serve their purposes. Additionally, in the marathon swimming world, each swimmer has a support team that includes escort boat pilots, coaches, trainers or handlers, kayakers, paddle boarders and observers.
Lanolin
Lanolin is a manufactured by-product of wool fat and comes in a variety of types.
Often the lanolin appears white on the skin upon application.
The lanolin should be pressed on thinly but firmly on your skin.
Glow Sticks
Glow sticks and other illumination of all sorts are used by marathon swimmers who swim at night.
