With her permission, we observed a few of her 50-meter pool workouts in Mission Viejo, California under the coaching of Bill Rose. On those days, she was working on both her endurance and speed as she looks forward to returning to her second Olympics in London.

Mission Viejo Nadadores
Mission Viejo Nadadores - Bill Rose - Swimming Pool
Swimming World Magazine described Olympic open water swimmer Chloe Sutton in a very positive light after she won the USA Swimming national 800-meter freestyle championship: "The transformation of Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton into a legitimate two-sport star in the U.S. is complete. Not only did she qualify to represent the U.S. in the open water 10K earlier this summer, she claimed the top spot in the women's 800 free to prove that she's for real in the pool as well."

Crossing Over Between The Pool And Open Water
Chloe Sutton
led a group of cross-over swimmers (open water + pool) in the pool at the recent USA Swimming National Championships in the 800-meter freestyle.

Chloe won the event in 8:24.77 only behind Great Britain's Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington (8:21.15) by a few seconds.

World 25K championship fourth-place swimmer Haley Anderson was third in 8:32.80 while her USA Swimming open water swim teammate Emily Brunemann was fourth in 8:34.25.

The speed that many of the top American open water swimmers are showing in the pool is quite impressive which should prove beneficial at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships 10K race against the top Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and Brazilians.

"I want to do everything I can to be the best pool and open-water swimmer I can be and I'm excited to be a part of it," said Chloe. "But it's going to be difficult to continue this taper [for another two weeks before the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. It's going to be really challenging, but if I stay focused and block everything out and do whatever I need to do, then I'm going to shoot for an 8:20 (in the 800 free)."
